The Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year — right in the middle of a three-day weekend — which means Southwest Riverside County is pulling out all the stops. From parades and live bands to fireworks over the lake, here's everything you need to know to make the most of the holiday weekend right here at home.

Friday, July 3

Start the weekend early.

If you're not ready to wait until Saturday, there are already a few reasons to get out of the house on Friday.

Menifee Independence Day Celebration — Wheatfield Park (30627 Menifee Road) kicks things off with a 4 p.m. parade along La Piedra Road featuring tractors, public safety vehicles, and community entries. After the parade, stick around for food and craft vendors, a kids' zone with bounce houses, and live music from country act Franklin Wall and classic rock favorites from The Dreamboats (50s & 60s). Fireworks go off promptly at 9 p.m.

Saturday, July 4 — The Main Event

Saturday is packed from morning to night across the region. Here's how to plan your day:

Start Your Morning in Old Town Temecula

The City of Temecula is celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence with its full annual extravaganza, and it all begins in Old Town.

4th of July Parade — 10 a.m. The parade kicks off at the intersection of Old Town Front Street & 2nd Street, heading north and ending at 6th Street. Arrive early — pre-parade entertainment runs from 9:15–9:45 a.m. featuring the Miniature Therapy Horses of Temecula and professional western entertainer Judy Taylor. Expect road closures around Old Town, so plan your parking accordingly.

4th of July Fun Run — also taking place July 4 in Temecula for those who want to earn their BBQ before the fireworks.

Afternoon into Evening: Temecula Family Fun & Fireworks

Head to Ronald Reagan Sports Park for the main event from 2–10 p.m. Bounce houses, face painters, food vendors, and live entertainment fill the afternoon. The fireworks display starts promptly at 9 p.m. No admission fee required for the Family Fun Zone.

Pechanga Resort Casino is also hosting its own 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday for those who prefer a resort setting. Keep an eye on Pechanga's website for show times.

Murrieta's 35th Annual Birthday Bash

Murrieta celebrates its city birthday every Fourth of July, and this year marks the 35th. Head to Cal Oaks Sports Park (40600 California Oaks Road) starting at 2 p.m. for a full day of family activities, food, and live music — plus a firefighter hosedown at 4:30 p.m. to cool everyone off in the July heat.

Lake Elsinore Fireworks Over the Lake

For one of the most scenic fireworks shows in the region, head to Lakepoint Park (420 Lakeshore Drive, Lake Elsinore) for the fireworks display over the water. Bring your blanket, grab a spot on the shoreline, and enjoy the reflection off the lake. Few things beat it.

 Sunday, July 5 — Wind Down the Weekend

The crowds thin out, the weather's still warm, and there's still plenty to do before Monday.

Wild-O-Market Space — Temecula/Wildomar area is hosting a July 5th market event with local vendors, makers, and artisans. A great low-key way to spend the morning before heading home, hitting Temecula Wine Country, or grabbing brunch on Old Town Front Street.

Old Town Temecula is always a solid Sunday option — browse the shops, grab lunch at one of the local restaurants, and decompress from the weekend.

Quick Tips for the Weekend

Beat the heat. Highs will likely be in the 90s — bring water, sunscreen, and hats for daytime events. Evening events are much more comfortable.

Arrive early for fireworks. Parking fills up fast at all venues. Plan to be in place at least an hour before showtime.

Pets at home. Fireworks are beautiful for us and terrifying for animals. Make sure your pets are safely indoors with ID tags updated — this is the biggest weekend of the year for lost pets across Riverside County.

Illegal fireworks. All three cities prohibit personal fireworks. If you see illegal fireworks in Temecula, Murrieta, or Menifee, you can report them to your local non-emergency police line.
